What Is Age Stage Healing?
Aug 28, 2026
Have you done the work? Named the wound, recognized its symptoms, even taken real steps to heal it, and still find the same pattern waiting for you in your next relationship? Still find yourself repeating the same mirror of life with the opposite sex, the same test showing up in a different disguise?
I have written about the father wound, its symptoms, and how to begin healing it. What I want to speak to now is why, for so many people, insight alone is not enough to make a pattern stop. It is because the wound was not laid down all at once, in one moment, by one person. It was laid down in layers, at specific ages, in specific stages of your development, each one leaving its own imprint on your consciousness. To heal it completely, you have to go back and meet yourself at each of those ages. This is what I call age stage healing.
The developmental psychologist Erik Erikson mapped the stages every human being moves through, from infancy into adulthood, each one built around a particular question the psyche is trying to answer. Can I trust the world? Can I act with confidence, or will I be shamed for it? Can I know who I am? Can I truly let another person in? At each stage, depending on what we received and what we did not, we come out the other side either strengthened or wounded around that particular question. Those early answers do not stay in the past. They become the lens through which we experience every relationship that follows.
This is why the work I do with clients begins with a timeline. Not to dig up trauma for its own sake, and never to relive it, but so I can see clearly, together with my client, what actually occurred at each age and stage of their life. Once we can see it clearly, we can begin to work with it directly instead of around it.
From there, the real work begins, and it takes time. In my experience, a full year to a year and a half of consistent, guided practice, moving through each age stage in turn. At each one, we restructure what happened there. We repattern it. We reparent the part of you that did not get what it needed at that age. We reframe the meaning your consciousness attached to what occurred. This is not talk therapy circling the same story. It is a deliberate rebuilding, stage by stage, until what once lived in you as an open wound no longer runs the show.
When this work is done thoroughly, something shifts at the root. The pattern that kept showing up in the mirror of life, the same wound reflected back through different partners, different circumstances, the same relational issue wearing a new face, simply stops needing to show up that way. Not because you have gotten better at managing it, but because the core patterning underneath it has actually changed.
This is the fullest expression of the healing I have written about in the father wound work, and in every piece I write. Spiritual psychology teaches that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, here to learn and grow through everything that happens to us. Age stage healing is how that growth becomes complete rather than partial, how the exiled parts of yourself, at every age, get gathered back home.
I have walked this path myself, stage by stage, and I have walked it with client after client. It is not quick, and I will not pretend that it is. But it is thorough, and it is real, and on the other side of it is a kind of freedom that insight alone cannot give you.
If you are ready to go beyond managing your patterns and into healing them completely, I would love to walk beside you.
