Looking for a spiritual therapist? What a spiritual life coach offers, by Dawn Light Amora

Searching for a spiritual therapist near you, and not quite finding the fit?

If you want support that honors your spirit as well as your mind, you have two real options. A licensed therapist who integrates spirituality can diagnose and treat mental health conditions. A spiritual life coach, like me, is not a therapist and does not offer clinical treatment, but works directly with the soul level of your patterns through Spiritual Psychology. Many people searching for "spiritual counseling" are actually looking for the second.

I am Dawn Light Amora, a Spiritual Life Coach in Santa Rosa, California, with a Master's degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. I want to help you understand what you are really looking for, so you can choose the right support with clear eyes.

What Is a Spiritual Therapist?

"Spiritual therapist" is not a licensed title of its own. People usually use it to mean one of two things.

The first is a licensed mental health professional, such as a marriage and family therapist or psychologist, who brings spirituality into their clinical work. They are trained and licensed to diagnose, treat and support conditions like depression, anxiety disorders, trauma and grief.

The second is a practitioner who works with the spiritual side of healing without offering clinical treatment. This is where spiritual life coaches, spiritual mentors and Spiritual Psychology coaches belong. The words people type into Google, like spiritual counselor, spiritual therapy or spirituality counseling, often blur these two together.

What Are People Usually Looking For When They Search "Spiritual Counseling"?

In my experience, they are usually looking for a feeling more than a credential. They want someone who will not treat their spiritual life as a symptom. Someone who understands that a painful pattern can also be a doorway. Someone who will ask not only what is wrong, but who they are beneath what is wrong.

Often they have already done talk therapy. They understand their history. They can name their patterns. And still, something in them feels untouched. That gap between understanding a pattern and being free of it is exactly where Spiritual Psychology begins.

How Is a Spiritual Life Coach Different From a Spiritual Therapist?

The clearest difference is scope. A licensed therapist can diagnose and treat. I do not. Coaching is not a clinical or medical service, and I never ask anyone to choose me instead of a therapist. Many of my clients work with both.

What I offer is different in focus. Spiritual Psychology treats every difficulty as spiritual curriculum, material your soul is working with so that more of your authentic self can come forward. We look at the core patterning beneath what keeps repeating, find the age and experience where it began, and do deep clearing work so the pattern can finally let go. I go deeper into this in Spiritual Psychology vs. Therapy and in Do I Need a Coach or a Therapist?

When Is a Licensed Therapist the Right Choice?

Please choose a licensed therapist or medical provider first if:

  • You are in crisis or feel unsafe.
  • You are experiencing symptoms that may need diagnosis or medication, such as severe depression, panic, postpartum symptoms or obsessive thoughts.
  • You are working through trauma that feels too big to approach without clinical care.
  • You need support that insurance can cover.

Coaching can walk alongside that care later, if and when it feels right.

When Is a Spiritual Life Coach the Right Choice?

Spiritual Psychology coaching is often the right fit when:

  • You keep repeating the same painful pattern in love, family or work.
  • You understand your story intellectually but still feel its grip.
  • You want your spiritual life to be part of your healing, not left outside the door.
  • You are ready to move from survival into living as your authentic self.

What Does Spiritual Psychology Coaching Look Like?

Sessions feel like a deep, honest conversation with structure underneath it. We name the pattern, find where it began, and meet the exiled parts of yourself that have been carrying it. I use Spiritual Psychology, ThetaHealing and age stage healing, and sometimes tarot as a tool for self-reflection. You can read more in What Happens in a Spiritual Life Coaching Session.

Many clients come to me for relationship patterns, the father wound and mother wound, self-love, reparenting the inner child and stress that keeps coming back.

How Do I Find a Spiritual Counselor or Coach Near Me in Santa Rosa?

Look for three things. Clear training you can verify. Honesty about what they do and do not offer. And a free first conversation, so you can feel whether you trust them.

I work in person in Santa Rosa and across Sonoma County, and online by Zoom for clients anywhere. You can learn more about my approach on my Spiritual Psychology page and see what spiritual life coaching costs.
