How To Develop Trust By Connecting To Your Authentic Self

Many of us struggle with trust. This is often due to a long history of distrust that often begins in one’s childhood. Often something happens and our response is that it is not safe to trust. This belief pattern becomes a part of who we believe we are and what we need to feel safe in the world. Unfortunately, this distrust keeps us disconnected from others or attracted to others that often break our trust which provides further support for our belief that ultimately others cannot be trusted.

According to spiritual psychology, we form our identity or who we believe we are from these earthly experiences. We forget that we are actually more than these patterns, thoughts and beliefs. Our authentic self or Soul is pure love and instead of trying to place our trust in the hands of others, we need to learn to place our trust in our True Self.

The more time you can spend connecting with your true self, the divine being that is within all of us the easier it becomes to trust and feel safe. The more you build a connection with your authentic self the more this part of you can begin guiding you in life. If you can truly trust yourself and have deep compassion for yourself the world becomes safer, and it becomes easier to trust because you know you will always be there for yourself.

When we go through the world leading from a wounded place rather than our authentic self, we often set ourselves up for greater pain and hurt. When you can become conscious of this part of you that is needing connection and love you can begin offering the wounded parts of your trust from your authentic self, rather than looking for others to do this for you.

Three Steps to Building Trust With Your Authentic Self

  1. Become Aware of the Patterns: Noticing the parts of you that might be wounded or in pain is a part of the process of connecting to your authentic self. We can often get stuck in our earthy stories and experiences but the only way to step out of them is to first become aware of them so they can be healed and changed. When we are not aware of them, they have a way of dictating our life and making us believe they are us.

  1. Develop Self-Awareness: Taking time to reflect and connect to your inner world is also a part of connecting to your authentic self. Spending time journaling, meditating and practicing mindfulness. Often, we spend so much time being consumed by the outside world we fail to slow down and connect to the internal. We can find more trust when we take the time to connect and understand our internal world.

  1. Connect with Inner Compassion: Your Authentic Self is deeply compassionate and loving. It has the ability to heal past patterns and help you feel safe and loved in this world. By practicing self-compassion, you are ultimately connecting into your True Self and offering your parts comfort, love, and safety, this builds trust over time.
